With many of our experts having operated within the certified, physical security industry for over two decades; they have seen first-hand the industry development and the innovations which have brought us to the current landscape that we see today.

Niall Griffin

Temporary Security Expert

Starting out in 1988 in conference policing, Niall has worked in the policing and temporary security sector for over 30 years. Bringing with him, extensive experience from a multitude of different perspectives and disciplines including as a Counter Terrorism Security Co-Ordinator for the Sussex Police. Now part of the HS Security team and the General Manager of Hardstaff Secure, Niall can provide expert advice on all aspects of temporary security schemes.

Within his role of conference policing, Niall was assigned the annual party conference in Brighton based at the Grand Hotel. With the very real threat from the IRA (Irish Republican Army) at the time, temporary motorway barriers were utilised to protect the venue. As explosives were one of the main tactics employed by the IRA, there was a need to protect against improvised explosives (IEDs) and vehicle borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs).

Paul Mutter

Paul Mutter

Crowded Spaces & Public Realm Protection Expert

Having worked within the construction industry for over twenty years; Paul has always been in customer facing roles which have required a high level of engagement and interface with design and specification. This has meant working closely with designers and architects to ensure that solutions being provided meet stringent aesthetic requirements.

Beginning in the security industry over ten years ago, Paul began to utilise his knowledge of design and the mechanisms of specification to deliver prestigious security schemes within the public realm. Being a firm advocate that ‘security doesn’t need to be ugly’; Paul helped to highlight the concept that security can be utilised to enhance a scheme rather than diminish it. Measures do not need to portray a fortress mentality if that is not the security objective of a site.

Russell Ridgway

Critical National Infrastructure Security Expert (Industrial)

For over fifteen years, Russell has been heavily involved in the physical security industry, helping to advise and provide security solutions to protect Critical National Infrastructure across the UK and further afield. Pivotal in driving and informing product development to meet critical national infrastructure needs over the last decade, Russell has led a development programme to mitigate emerging threats and address client requirements.

With an ethos to ensure that all clients receive the right security advice, Russell’s reputation has been built on always recommending the right type of product to suit his client's needs, even if it comes from outside the HS Security group. For him, the needs and security requirements of the site are held paramount. This refreshing and honest approach has seen Russell held in high esteem within the security sector and has facilitated conversations and relationships for years to come.

Kathryn Cooper

Kathryn Cooper

Civil Nuclear & Energy Security Expert

Having worked within the construction, security & healthcare sectors for over 15 years, Kathryn has gained experience with large, highly regulated organisations including those in the Nuclear and Energy industry.

Working as Hardstaff Barrier’s Service Manager, Kathryn has been responsible for implementing business improvement processes across the company, including successfully achieving the ‘Fit for Nuclear’ accreditation last year.

During the last 3 years, Kathryn has operated at a strategic level alongside the Board of Directors within Hardstaff to lead projects improving safety culture, transportation, service quality, company ethos, and employee wellbeing. This has resulted in the award of prestigious Nuclear contracts such as Hinkley Point. This made possible by Kathryn’s commitment to improving safety and quality practices at every level of the business.

Tabu Chanda

Data Centre Security Expert

As Head of Strategic Business Development for Hill & Smith Holdings’ Roads & Security division Tabu’s working knowledge of the data centre market as well as the security products provided by the HS Security Group of companies is an invaluable asset to the HS Security team.

Tabu has a number of years’ experience in the data centre sector both within a Tier 1 contractor and specialist subcontractor environment.

He is familiar with the fundamental challenges within the sector, such as the principles that guide the mechanical and electrical configuration within the data halls and the ever-evolving technologies that drive changes in this area.

He also has a detailed understanding of the market structure, including the drivers for data centre expansion, as well as who the main operators are and how they fit into the sector hierarchy, including those who are focused on Edge computing.

Adam Savage

Adam Savage

Perimeter Protection, Security Expert

As Sales Manager for Barkers Fencing, Adam has been with the company for over twenty years. Starting as an estimator, Adam was soon moving through the ranks and dealing with high level, specialist projects within the Critical National Infrastructure sectors.

Moving from commercial markets, assisting fencing contractors, Adam began to utilise his knowledge of security products and testing standards to move into a more specialised role working alongside specification managers and architects.

In an effort to develop the way in which Barkers positioned themselves within the fencing industry, the company innovated and designed more products to be tested by the Loss Prevention Certification Board to meet the LPS 1175 force test standard.

Innovation within the Barkers product portfolio and a switch to work collaboratively with architects and security specifiers caused a shift change in the types of projects which were being served.
