Data Centre

THE CLIENT: Data Centre Client
LOCATION: Mainland Europe
THE BRIEF: HS Security recently delivered a perimeter security scheme for a prominent data centre client at one of their data centres in mainland Europe. We worked closely with the client’s security team to develop a perimeter specification to provide layered protection against the potential threat of forced entry and hostile vehicles.
Project Background

Project Background

HS Security member, Barkers Fencing was originally approached in 2010 by an architect looking for a secure, third party accredited fencing system for a high-value data centre project. Fellow HS Security members Berry Systems and ATG Access were brought on board, drawing on the group’s expertise in critical infrastructure protection to provide the client with the best options to secure their site.

Impressed by the group’s engineering expertise and extensive experience in protecting critical sites, they were introduced to the end client.

Project Challenges

Project Challenges

Due to the critical nature and high value of the data stored within their top facilities, the client required solutions that they could depend on to protect the site if it came under attack. The HS Security group of companies involved in the project worked together with the client to provide them with a range of suitable options to protect the data centre.

The sensitive nature of the site meant that the original specification was for fencing which has been approved for government use as well as fencing and bollards which could provide hostile vehicle mitigation. As accredited systems were being deployed, it was important that they should be installed by an approved installer, who had been vetted and trained to install a certified product in the correct way.

How We Met Our Client's Requirements

How We Met Our Client's Requirements

We worked closely with the client’s security team to develop a perimeter specification to provide layered protection against the potential threat of forced entry and hostile vehicles. In the end, the perimeter security specification for the data centre included Barkers Fencing StronGuard, StronGuardRCS around the fence line, air-lock cantilever gates and an impact tested swing arm barrier for vehicle entrances as well as a turnstile to control pedestrian entry.

The main contractor wanted the project to be delivered in a single package, with HS Security installation experts Berry Systems brought in to install all of the entrance and security systems. This removed the client’s headache of having to deal with multiple suppliers and left them safe in the knowledge that the accredited solutions would be installed correctly.

This is a great example of how the affiliation brought by HS Security means that members are well aligned to work together to provide a turnkey solution for our customers. The integration between companies within HS Security meant that the client was able to draw on an extensive pool of expert knowledge and eliminate the issues that come with dealing with fragmented suppliers.
